5/27/2007 - A Recap for the Junior Varsity
Baseball Team
The Junior Varsity season had its ups and downs and
finished the season with an 8-12 record. Overall, there were many
different players who led a statistical category. The team was led on
offense by Michael Bohnett who led the team in average (.412), hits (21
in 17 games played), and stolen bases (12). Stephen Cooley led the team
in runs (23). Marcus Stewart led the team in triples (2) and slugging
percentage (.522). Jesse Sexton was on top in doubles (8) and On Base
Percentage (.500). Mark Nation led the team in walks (15) and Travis
Houghton led the team in the least strikeouts (3) while leading the team
with the most at bats (58) as well. Marcus Stewart and Jesse Sexton
tied for the lead in RBI (16), with Stephen Cooley and Brandon Brewer
both closely behind with 15.
Defensively, Jesse Sexton led the team with
throwing out seven base runners from behind the plate. Shane Burke was
the only team member without an error (6 attempts). Marcus Stewart led
the team in wins (3), ERA (2.01), and was second in strikeouts (32 K’s
in 24 innings pitched). Stephen Cooley led the team in strikeouts (41
K’s in 28 innings pitched) and was second in ERA (2.75). Mark Nation
had 24 strikeouts in 28 innings pitched and Travis Houghton and Michael
Bohnett each had a save. The future looks bright for the Redskin
Baseball Team.
Redskins lose two tough ones at Michigan Center
3-0, 3-0.
Michigan Center—Mark Nation took the mound
and suffered the loss while allowing zero earned runs, four hits, five
walks, and striking out seven. The Redskins were almost no hit until
Jesse Sexton came up in the top of the seventh inning with two outs and
stroked a single.
The second game was much of the same while the
Redskins could not muster of much offense. Jesse Sexton took the loss
on the mound while allowing one earned run, 4 hits, five walks, and six
strikeouts.
Redskins finish season with two losses 14-2,
15-2.
Onsted—Brandon Brewer started on the mound
and allowed two earned runs while walking one, and striking out two.
Michael Bohnett had a hit and a run, while Jesse Sexton added a hit and
a RBI. Shane Burke led the offense with two hits and a RBI.
In game two Travis Houghton struck out three and
walked six while taking the loss. Michael Bohnett, Travis Houghton,
Jesse Sexton, Brandon Brewer, and Shane Burke each had a hit.
5/12/07
Clinton—In the Clinton Junior Varsity
Invitational Tournament the Saline Hornets came away with the
Championship Trophy. The Redskins faced Saline in the first game of the
tournament and suffered a 10-0 loss. Mark Nation took the loss on the
mound. Mike Bohnett went 2 for 2, while Marcus Stewart hits a triple.
Nation also added a hit.
In the Consolation game the Redskins took on
Homer. The Redskins, behind the strong pitching of Stephen Cooley, won
8-1. Cooley threw a complete game, three hit, one run, zero earned runs
performance, while walking three and striking out a season high 12.
Mike Bohnett continued to hit the ball well and went 3 for 3. Shane
Burke also added a 3 hit performance. Jesse Sexton went 2 for 2, while
Brandon Brewer upped his average going 1 for 2.
5/7/07
Hudson—In the first game of the doubleheader
the Redskins sent Jesse Sexton to the mound. Sexton allowed 6 walks and
5 strikeouts and gave way to Stephen Cooley who took the loss in relief
6-5. Brandon Brewer led the Skins offense with two hits. Sexton,
Marcus Stewart, Mark Nation, and Aaron Newsted each supplied a hit.
The second game the Redskins bats came alive and
scored 16 runs to Hudson 4. The game was called due to a mercy in the 5th
inning. Travis Houghton (3 runs), Aaron Newsted (3 runs), Marcus
Stewart (4 RBI), and Brandon Brewer (4 RBI) each had two hits. Jesse
Sexton, Cam Clark, and Dan Hill all added a hit. Stephen Cooley had 4
runs and 4 walks.
5-3-07-Clinton loses
two one run games.
Parma—The Redskins
traveled to Parma Western and battle to two pitcher duals. The Skins
lost 3-2 in the last inning in the first game, and 2-1 in the second
game. Stephen Cooley allowed 3 hits, 0 earned runs and struck out 7,
while offensively supplying one hit. Jesse Sexton had a double and 2
RBI. Marcus Stewart had a hit and a run.
In the nightcap, Marcus
Stewart threw another great game for the Skins. Stewart allowed one
hit, 0 earned runs, 3 walks, and struck out 5. Stewart also was the
offense star with a double. Brandon Brewer had Clinton’s other hit

Madison
Clinton—The Redskins
beat the Madison Trojans 9-2 in the first game. The second game was
called due to lightning in the 4th inning. Mark Nation
earned the win in the first game with scattering 9 hits, allowing 1
earned run, while walking none and striking out 8. Mike Bohnett led the
Skins with 3 hits. Travis Houghton and Brandon Brewer each added two
hits. Stephen Cooley, Marcus Stewart, and Aaron Newsted all contributed
one hit.
In the second game
Stephen Cooley and Travis Houghton each had two hits, while Aaron
Newsted, Cam Clark, and Dan Hill each supplied one hit. Travis Houghton
started on the mound but took a no-decision due o the cancellation of
the game.
Redskin JV Team splits with Ida
Ida—The Redskins
traveled to Ida and lost the first game 11-8 and then came back and won
in the second game 10-9. In the first game Stephen Cooley took the
mound and the loss. Stephen Cooley allowed zero earned runs while
taking the loss. He struck out 9 while walking 8. Cooley also led the
Redskins on offense with 3 hits, 3 runs, and 1 RBI. Jesse Sexton had
two hits in two trips, while also scoring twice and driving in 1. Mike
Bohnett, Brandon Brewer, and Aaron Newsted each added a hit as well.
In the second game of
the double header, Marcus Stewart took the mound and came away with a
gutsy win. He allowed 2 earned runs, while walking 2, and striking out
6. Stephen Cooley once again led the offense with two hits, 1 run, and
2 RBI. Jesse Sexton and Brandon Brewer each had one hit and 3 RBI.
Travis Houghton had a hit, 2 runs, and 1 RBI which was the game winning
RBI. Aaron Newsted also added a hit in the second game as well.
Redskins lose a tough one - 4/18/07
Sand Creek—The Redskins traveled to Sand Creek and
lost 7-2 and 3-2. In the first game Mark Nation threw a complete game
nine hitter and took the loss. He walked 2 while striking out 4. Rylie
Robinson led the Skins with 2 singles. Michael Bohnett slapped a double
while Marcus Stewart had a single.
In the second game Marcus Stewart took a hard loss
in the bottom of the seventh. Marcus Stewart threw the complete game
allowing 2 earned runs, 6 hits, 3 base on balls, and striking out 6.
Mark Nation had a pinch hit RBI single that tied the game in the top of
the seventh. Rylie Robinson added another single, while Marcus Stewart
and Jesse Sexton each had doubles.
The Junior Varsity
Redskins Up Record to 3-0. - 4/16/07
In the first game of a
double header with Britton-Deerfield, Mark Nation took the mound and
earned the win. The Redskins won 7-4. Nation threw 6 and 1/3 innings
allowing 3 hits, 3 runs, 5 walks, and striking out 5. Travis Houghton
came in relief and earned the save. Stephen Cooley and Aaron Newsted
led the Skins on offense with two hits apiece. Marcus Stewart, Mark
Nation, and Michael Bohnett each supplied a hit as well.
In game two the Redskins
slugged their way to a 20-2 mercy after 5 innings. Marcus Stewart
started and earned the win while allowing 1 hit in 4 innings of work.
He also walked 5 and struck out 7. Dan Hill had three hits. Brandon
Brewer, Marcus Stewart, and Jesse Sexton all had two hits. Stephen
Cooley had a bases clearing triple. Shane Burke, Michael Bohnett, and
Aaron Newsted all had one hit.
The Redskins will take
on the Blissfield Royals on April 17 at home for a 4:00 p.m. start.
JV's Open with Win - 4/11/07
The Clinton JV Baseball Team started the season off
with a win. They defeated Grass Lake 11-5. Stephen Cooley started on
the mound and struck out 9 while only allowing one hit. Michael Bohnett
came in relief and picked up the win. Marcus Stewart and Aaron Newsted
led the offense with 3 hits apiece. Travis Houghton, Stephen Cooley,
and Jesse Sexton each contributed 2 hits. Brandon Brewer, Mark Nation,
and Cameron Clark all supplied 1 hit as well.
The Redskins started a second game but it was
called in the top of the fourth due to darkness. Before the stoppage
Jesse Sexton had struck out 4 while allowing 3 hits on the mound.
Stephen Cooley and Jesse Sexton each had a double, while Michael Bohnett
and Travis Houghton each hit a single.
